Operation 261

Lab Rescue needs your help!

On May 27, 2010, Polk County Sheriff's Office seized 261 dogs from the home of a Florida couple (press release). The PCSO needed assistance to help them with the sheer volume of animals.

Lab Rescue, along with other volunteer organizations, immediately answered the call for help. On Sunday, May 30th, 31 volunteers from LRROF converged on the PCSO Animal Services Office in Winter Haven, FL to help bathe and provide services for the animals in need.

The animals were in need of medical attention, some were emaciated, many were flea and parasite ridden, among other things. In a short time period, the volunteers washed away the past and planned for the future welfare of these wonderful animals.

Dubbed Operation 261, LRROF is asking our volunteers, friends, family, and the public to help us!

We'll need:

Foster Homes - These animals will need a place to stay once they're ready to be released.

Donations - Vet care, food, treats, medications, flea-tick-heartworm preventatives, deworming, etc., costs mayquickly add up. We need help from the public to help us cover those costs.

If you'd like to donate to Lab Rescue to help with its rescue operations in Florida, please donate here:

Volunteer Transport - Moving these animals into the LRROF foster network around the state, transporting to vet appointments, etc.

For more information, please email us.

6/11 Update - The judge reviewing the case will not rule until 7/15. All the dogs will remain in the care of the PCSO until a resolution is reached. Please contact us for more information.

Hi, my name is Lady Bear

Available for Adoption!

The beautiful Lady  Bear was found one day wandering blindly down a lonely country road by a good Samaritan who was brave enough to try with all her might to lift this ragged lab into her truck and contact  LabRescue of Forida. When we received her first pictures, her eyes were shut tight from infection and tumors, she could hardly hold her head up from dehydration, and you could count the bones in her back down to the tip of her tail. She hardly had a stitch of hair to cover her skin that was left sticky and smelly from some sort of yeast infection, but her tail was wagging and she was giving us a smile to say thanks!
Lady Bear has a long road ahead of her with major surgeries to correct what her previous owner could have treated with routine care and inexpensive medications. Because of this neglect, she is in chronic pain from an ear infection that has become trapped in her cranium, and is nearly blind from the tumors that have rubbed her eyes raw. Thanks to simple thyroid medication, her fur has begun to grown back and her yeasty skin has improved from simple medicated baths three times a week.
She has flourished at the foster home with other dogs and farm animals and doesn’t have time to dwell on how bad she sometimes feels, but only how much life she wants to live. Lady Bear is the best example of what LRROF can do to help this beautiful breed, so please be kind and generous in your gift to help us help her.
